Xiaomi is going to launch the much expected Mi A2 & Mi A2 Lite soon (on 8th August Mi A2 may launch in India not the Mi A2 Lite). The Mi A2 is the global version of Mi 6X in China and Mi A2 Lite is the global version of Redmi 6 Pro in China. Both of them are Android One device (So, two years of major updates and three years of security updates). So, for the folks who like Xiaomi's design, build quality and affordability but don't like the MIUI, it's the phone for you.

Battery: 4000 mAh.

Design:
Mi A2:
The metal unibody looks pretty good. The orientation of the camera changed from horizontal to vertical from the last year's Mi A1. The front of the phone is protected by 2.5D Gorilla Glass 5 which meets seamlessly with the metal back. There is a capacitive fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone. The grip is also very good. And a upgrade to 18:9 display is a bonus.
Mi A2 Lite:
The A2 Lite looks exactly the same as the Mi A2 except the phone is a bit small and there is a notch on the front.
Overall both phones have a pretty good design which will be liked by most of the peoples.
Display:
Mi A2:
Mi A2 sports a 5.99 inch display without any notch and with a contrast ratio of 1500:1. There is no issues with the display. It will meet all your expectations.
Mi A2 Lite:
Mi A2 sports a slightly smaller display of 5.84 inch. Rest is same as Mi A2. Due to a smaller display the pixels per inch on Mi A2 Lite is more than Mi A2 which produces crisper viewing experience. Although the difference is very small.
Performance:
Mi A2:
The Snapdragon 660 is really powerful. Along with up-to 6 GB RAM, the phone becomes a beast. Day to day task along with gaming will be a pleasure on this phone. But it will cost you the battery life.
Mi A2 Lite:
Xiaomi liked to put Snapdragon 625 on it's phone again which is still good enough. Along with up-to 4 GB of RAM, the phone is quite good in day to day task and gaming too. Besides Snapdragon 625 is power efficient.
Cameras:
Mi A2:
Mi A2 is a camera focused phone. There are two lenses 12 MP (f/1.8, 1/2.9", 1.25 micro metre) and 20 MP (f/1.8, 1/2.8", 1.0 micro metre, PDAF) which share the same aperture. Doing so it allows the 20 MP sensor to convert four micro pixels into two super pixels via Pixel Binning. The resulting photo is then up-scaled back to 20 MP image. There is EIS as well. All of these provides a great improvement in low light photography. The front facing camera is as same as previous's years. There is a Sony IMX376 sensor with 4500k selfie light. Besides there is some AI things to play with. The result is very good. The Mi A2 really excels in the camera department.
Mi A2 Lite:
Mi A2 Lite is not that good as Mi A2 in camera department. But it is good enough. The 12 MP back camera with 5 MP supporting camera takes some decent shots. The 5 MP front camera is decent as well.
Battery:
Mi A2:
Mi A2 packs a 3000 mAh battery which is small. I think Xiaomi might pack a 4000 mAh battery. As the phone packs a powerful CPU and GPU. It seems it will give a one day battery, but barely.
Mi A2 Lite:
Mi A2 Lite sports a less powerful and power efficient CPU along with a larger battery of 4000 mAh. So, it will give one day battery life easily with a moderate use.
Other factors:
1. Mi A2 Lite supports two nano SIM cards along with a microSD card but Mi A2 only supports two nano SIMs.
2. Mi A2 Lite still sports a 3.5 mm headphone jack but Mi A2 doesn't.
3. Mi A2 sports USB Type C but Mi A2 Lite still sticking with USB 2.0.
Conclusion:
So, both phones are good. Where Mi A2 is a more camera and performance focused phone, Mi A2 Lite focuses on battery life and some handy features. It's up-to you which phone you buy depending upon your needs.
