iPhone XR
Apple announced three new phones, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR. Today I'll be writing about the XR, the most affordable one. iPhone XR is almost the last year's iPhone X with some changes in the display, camera, processor and build materials. Let's check out the specifications first:
Display: 6.1 inch IPS LCD display with 828×1792 resolution (19.5:9) and a notch.
Chip-set: Apple A12 Bionic.
Variants: 64/128/256 GB ROM with 3 GB RAM.
microSD Card Support: No.
Cameras: 12 MP (f/1.8, 28 mm, 1/2.55", 1.4 micro meter, OIS, PDAF, Quad LED dual tone flash, HDR) rear camera and 7 MP (f/2.2, 32 mm) front camera.
OS: iOS 12.
Battery: No mAh values yet. But Apple told this.
Price: Starting from ₹76,900.
Design: The iPhone XR follows the design language of the iPhone X. But there are some changes. The bezels are a bit thicker as iPhone XR sports a LCD panel in place of a OLED one and LCD panels can not be bent. There is a single camera setup on the back. The frame of the phone is made of aluminium in place of steel. The size of the notch is not changed although. The phone will be available in 6 new colours: Red, Blue, Coral, Yellow, White and Black which I think will be the major selling point of the XR. The aluminium frame along the edges of the phone are also coloured along with the glass back and the frame colour makes a slight coloured chin around the front side of the phone matching with the wallpaper which looks pretty good.
Display: iPhone XR sports a IPS LCD panel. They named it as Liquid Retina Display. In past you have seen Apple to make some great LCD panels, this one is no exception with great accuracy of colours. But the resolution is quiet low although the ppi is over 300, 326. In spite of this the display is not as good as an OLED one. The display is a true tone one so it will automatically adjust white balance according to your surroundings. There is the tap to wake feature as well. There is no 3D Touch in iPhone X, but a new feature called Haptic Touch.
Performance: iPhone XR sports the new Apple A12 Bionic Chip which is the most powerful processor in the history of smartphones. It's the first 7 nm Neural chip. The Face ID is faster now. In a word no issues with performance. You can check out the comparison with A11 Bionic below.
Cameras: The single camera lens on the iPhone XR is same as the primary camera on the iPhone XS. There's also the new image processing feature. Although it sports a single camera lens it still packs the Portrait Mode. It works with the ISP and Neural Processor to do that. You can also control the bokeh effect after clicking a picture just like the iPhone XS. So, the camera is not missing any features from the iPhone XS just the telephoto lens. You will get a satisfying photograph from the most popular camera on smartphone.
Special Features:
1. iPhone XR is IP67 rated but not IP68 which is still good.
So, iPhone XR is definitely a good upgrade for iPhone 8 or older devices. But it's not a upgrade for the iPhone X users.
The iPhone XR will be on orders from 19 October and will go on sale from 26 October.
