Flying Cars and our Future

Many dreams of past has become reality yet, as for a super transmitter in our pocket which helps us to communicate with anyone on our planet, we can map human genome now or gather the whole world's information in our fingertip any time. But somewhere flying car is missing.

History of flying car:

Ted Hall was the first aeronautical engineer to introduce the first fully functioning flying car with Convair (a major airplane manufacturer of that time). The car was a combination of road car and attachable wings. The prototype had a total of 66 successful flights. But a crash in 1947 during landing shut downed the project as well as the dream of Hall.

Today's actual, working & flying prototypes:

The companies Terrafugia, AeroMobil and Moller International have their own such prototypes. So, yes there are flying cars which work really effortlessly.

Then why flying cars are not for mass yet?

Humans are horrible drivers, that's the reason. Every year 135000 traffic collision-related deaths occur in India costing 550 billion INR. Now you can imagine such a drivers driving flying cars and colliding with buildings & each other. This will make flying cars a 2 ton death machine & you will not like to stay in a place where flying metals can fall on your head at any time.

Solution can be Driverless Tech:

Yes, if humans are unreliable, technology are. Driverless Tech is being used in airplanes for decades. Now a pilot fly only for 3.5-7 minutes each flight, rest fly is controlled by Driverless Tech. So, application of the technology in flying cars can reduce that horrible thought (where flying metals can fall on your head at any time). Applying such tech will not be so difficult. As more difficult process is going on.

Driverless Tech for normal cars:

Applying Driverless Tech for normal cars is more difficult than applying it on flying cars. Because in flying cars you don't have to bother about pedestrians, holes, construction sites etc.
Already companies like Uber, Google & Tesla is working on this project.

1. Uber (Travis Kalanick): Last month Uber published a 98 page white paper on flying cars. There they described their concrete plan to realise 'On Demand Aviation Service' within next 10 years.

 2. Google (Larry Page): Google invested $100 million on 2 flying car startups. Those are Zee.One and Kitty Hawk. Zee.One is currently testing it's prototype at Hollister Municipal Airport. Kitty is going more secretely.

3. Tesla (Elon Musk): They believe on hyperloop tech over flying car for the application of this tech. Moreover they are working on a supersonic electric jet for long distance transportation.

VTOLs play in flying cars:

VTOLs (Vertically Take Off & Landing vehicles) can play a vital role in flying cars or they can be a flying car. The advantages of a VTOL is that the use small place. For using a electric motor in place of a combustion engine, they have less tendency to explode during crashes. Moreover a electric motor is easier to maintain. The transportation cast will be lesser as well. Forgot wings and wheels it's a human carrying drone.

The success of this techs will allow us to transport among places more easily saving our time and cost.

We developed a lot in case of IT but in case of skyscrapers, airplanes, cars etc, we are still in 1950s. But seeming the part transportation is developing now at least researches are going on this.

Flying cars have a long road to go ahead, but do they need any road to go? Welcome the future.
