Google I/O 2017

Google I/O held from May 17-19 this year. Google announced a lot of things this year too. I'm noting down the best 6 announcements that Google did. Let's start.

1. Android Go: I think the biggest announcement of Google I/O 2017 was the announcement of Android Go, a lite weight Android OS for low end phones. It's looking better than the Android One project. In Android Go the OS is so lite that it can run smoothly on a phone having just 512 MB or 1 GB of RAM. The apps will be optimised to run smoothly & they will not be more than 10 MB. For India it's going to be a great deal. It's much like YouTube Go app that launched in India to save mobile data few months back.

2. Android O: Google I/O isn't Google I/O without the announcement of new version of Android. Google announced their new version of Android i.e. Android O and told about it's features. To explore the features click here.

3. Google Lens: Another great announcement was Google Lens. It's a step towards smarter phones. You can put your camera to a flower & Google Lens with the help of Google Assistant will show you the name of the flower. Or, you can go to a cafe and scan their Wi-Fi password & your phone will be automatically connected to the network. You can show your phone a restaurant as well to get information about that. It's pretty cool! Google Lens will be available at the last of this year most probably.

4. Google Assistant availability increases & Google Home is about to call for you: Google Assistant is now available for 100 million smartphones along with iPhones now. So, it's a great news for iPhone users as they are getting the most informative virtual assistant in their phone.

Google Home will be now calling for you if you are a resident of USA. Google Home will do it without any SIM & it's absolutely free of cost. Google added the feature that Google Home can set reminder for you as well.

5. Google Daydream VR based Standalone Headsets: Google Daydream VR Headset was available for just few phones previously. In this year's Google I/O it became confirmed that Lenovo & HTC will be launching Standalone VR Headsets based on Google's Daydream. So, no need of smartphones. The headsets will be powered by Snapdragon 835 along with WorldSense Positional Tracking & Google's own Tango based tracking technology. The support for Google Daydream VR will be coming to Samsung Galaxy S8 & S8+ soon.

That was my list of 6 best announcements of Google I/O 2017. If you liked some other announcements on Google I/O 2017, then please let me know in the comment section below. Have a good day!
