Android O

Google launched the first developer preview of Android O on 21st March. This preview is only available for Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X & Nexus player. The second & third developer preview will be launched in May & July. The final version for public seeming to be launched in late August or early September. Now time for go through what new in Android O.

Picture-in-Picture mode:

You will be familiar with this feature in YouTube app that when you go back from a video the video keeps playing on a floating window. So, this feature will be available on board of Android O. What's the profit? The profit is you can play any video from any app in a floating window & navigate through the app or an entirely different app (Cool!).

Physical Keyboard Support:

Google made the Chromebook which can run every Android app & can be operated by a keyboard as well. Now they working to bring that feature to a Android smartphone. They are working on how keyboard can be used to navigate a phone. This is going to be a great feature for bloggers as writing on a screen without a keyboard is quite uncomfortable.

Adaptive Icons:

So, that's a cool idea for messing with irregular icons on Play Store. Google is giving a template of square & circle to app developers. So, every app going to have a regular shape, square or circle. User wants a square, all icons will be square; user wants Pixel like circular icons, they will become like that. I've loved the feature as I love symmetric & regular things.

Autofill API:

It's a very useful feature. Android will now store data while you're filling up a form, like your name, address, phone or email number or even password. So, when you need to fill a form fast, you just need to tap once & your form will be filled up in a second. Chrome on desktop have such a feature. Now the whole Android will have this so useful feature.

Audio:

Another great thing for Android O is it will support LDAC, aptX, aptX HD, SBC & AAC. Settings for sample rate & bits per sample is added on Android O. A Audio API is also added for the apps that require high fidelity, low latency audio.

App Badges:

Android O now supports app badges, means there will a highlight that how much notifications are there inside the app. This is a very little but useful feature sometimes.

Besides all this all new features, the notification shade, settings menu (changed almost totally) is also refreshed. Android Run Time (ART) is also improved.

So, Android O is going to be a great upgrade over Android N. The new features are really useful. So, if you have one supported device, download the developer preview today. But be causious. Enjoy Android O developer preview.
